Welcome to the official website for Crisis Education and Support, a non-profit organization that attempts to lower, if not eliminate the national suicide rate among adolescents, through education at schools and public events, and increased awareness of suicide, and factors that lead up to suicide, causing a "crisis situation."
Suicide is the third leading cause of preventable death in the United States. We intend to lower, if not eliminate the suicide rate. Most, if not all suicides occur in crisis situations. Our definition of a crisis situation is a situation where someone is a danger to them self, a danger to others, or gravely disabled (not able to support them self due to a mental illness). Technically, this is also the State of California's definition. A major problem with crisis situations is that few people know how to react to them. If people know how to react to them, they can help save the person in crisis's life, and get them the help they need. If a person is in crisis, and people around him/her do not know what to do, the person in crisis could die, and the bystanders could feel guilty about it for the rest of their lives.
A mental health crisis situation can happen to
anyone, at times when least expected. It is very important that all
students have the information to know how to respond in the case that
they are to ever encounter this situation in their lives, whether it is
themselves, or others. It is estimated that 1 of every 8 people will
attempt suicide in their life, and over 90% of the entire population
will think about attempting suicide in their life[1].
This means that practically everyone will encounter some type of mental
health crisis situation in their life. Suicide is also the third leading
cause of preventable death among adolescents. This website includes
information and statistics on suicide, along with information, events,
and news on Crisis Education and Support.
